How to use example projects and templates in Programa

Every Programa account comes pre-loaded with three example projects to help you get started faster.

Written by Gail Esterhuyse

This guide explains what each project is for, how to explore them, and how to use the Templates project to build your own file library.

The three example projects included with your account

When you create your Programa account, you'll find three example projects on your dashboard:

1. Residential Apartment | Example Project

An example of a complete interior design project in Programa. Explore the Schedule, Presentations, Pinboard and Project Management to see how the tools work together on a real job. All content, pricing and supplier details are examples for illustration only.

2. Getting Started With Programa

Your guided introduction to Programa. Work through the tasks in Project Management to set up your studio week by week, and explore each file to see the tools in action.

3. Templates

Ready-to-use Presentation and Schedule templates.

Open any file, select •••Copy to, and send an independent copy to your own project. Add your own files over time to build your studio's template library.

Note: If you don't see these projects on your Projects dashboard, contact our support team via live chat to have them added to your account.

Reviewing and exploring the example projects

Before you start building your own projects, take a look through the examples to get familiar with how Programa works:

  1. Open the Project Management tab in the Residential Apartment or Getting Started project and review the tasks, phases, and schedules

  2. Explore the Schedule, Presentations and Pinboard files to see how content is organized

  3. In Getting Started, work through the Project Management tasks in order — they're designed to walk you through core setup week by week

Using a file from the Templates project

Unlike the example projects, Templates isn't meant to be duplicated as a whole — it's a library of individual files you copy into your own projects as you need them.

To use a template file:

  1. Open the Templates project from your dashboard

  2. Open the Schedule or Presentation file you want to use

  3. Select the ••• menu in the toolbar

  4. Choose Copy to

  5. Select the destination project

  6. Your copied file will appear in that project's file list

Once copied, the new file is completely independent — changes made to the template won't affect your project, and changes made in your project won't affect the original template.

Best practice: Keep the Templates project as a central library for your studio. As you refine your workflows, add your own Schedules and Presentations here so your team always has a consistent starting point for new projects.

Renaming or removing an example project

If you'd like to rename an example project, or archive it once you no longer need it:

  1. Navigate to the project card on your dashboard

  2. Click the three dots in the bottom right corner of the card

  3. Select Rename or Archive

Creating your own custom template

Every studio has unique workflows, so you may want to build your own template files that fit your specific needs. We have a dedicated step-by-step guide for this:

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between an example project and a template?

Example projects (Residential Apartment and Getting Started) are ready-made projects you can explore to see how Programa works in practice. The Templates project is different — it's a library of individual files (Schedules and Presentations) that you copy into your own projects using Copy to.

Can I still duplicate a whole project like before?

Duplicating a project is still available from any project card (three dots → Duplicate), but for using templates, we recommend the file-level Copy to method described above — it's faster and only brings across what you need.
