What is Presentations?

Written by Gail Esterhuyse

The Presentations tool is for building beautiful, multi-sheet client presentations - concept boards, design development decks, sign-off packs, and builder documentation, all in one place.

Upload your floor plans, renders, and reference images, lay them out across as many sheets as you need, add text and shapes, and pin products from your schedule directly onto the visuals.

Until now, putting together a client presentation usually meant exporting a schedule PDF out of Programa, pulling floor plans out of SketchUp, building the whole thing in InDesign or Canva, and retyping every product name and code by hand. Every time something changed in the schedule - a price, a finish, a status - you had to remember to update the presentation too.

Presentations does away with all of that. The whole presentation lives inside Programa, and the products on it stay in step with your schedule automatically.

What makes it different

The thing that sets Presentations apart from every other tool you might have used — InDesign, Canva, Houzz Pro, Pinboard — is how products work on the page.

When you pin a product onto a floor plan or render, you're not placing a picture of the product. You're placing the actual product line item from your schedule. The same product you specified, the same one on your purchase order, the same one on your client's invoice.

So:

  • Change a price, finish, or status in your schedule, and every pin for that product updates everywhere it appears.

  • Edit a product from inside the presentation (click the pin → Details), and your changes save back to the schedule.

  • When your client approves or rejects a product from the presentation, the change shows up in your schedule straight away.

  • Delete a product from your schedule and its pins disappear from every presentation, automatically. No leftover pins for products that don't exist anymore.

This is the difference between a presentation that's out of date the moment you save it, and one that's always in step with the rest of your project.

And then there's scene pins

Scene pins work a bit differently, but solve a related problem: they connect spatial context to the right spot on a sheet. Drop a scene pin onto a floor plan and attach a render, elevation, or detail drawing to it — anyone clicking the pin sees that reference image come up right where it belongs in the space.

So instead of writing "see sheet D13 for the kitchen elevation" and making your client (or builder) hunt through pages to find it, they just click the pin and the elevation appears. Renders, elevations, joinery details, on-site progress photos — anything visual you'd otherwise have to cross-reference by hand.

No other tool gives you both kinds of pin in one document.

What you can build with it

Multi-sheet client presentations

Concept boards, design development decks, final sign-off presentations — all the things you've been making in InDesign or Canva for years, now in Programa. Add as many sheets as you need and lay out anything you can upload.

Documentation packs for builders and trades

Hand the builder one document instead of a stack of PDFs. Pin elevation drawings and detail sheets onto the exact spot on the floor plan they document, so the trades can click straight from the plan to the right detail. There's a QR code in every PDF export so they can pull up the live presentation on their phone on site.

Spatial product schedules

Show every product where it actually goes. Pin them onto the floor plan or render in the right spot, and anyone clicking a pin sees the full product spec — name, code, supplier, finish, status — without leaving the sheet.

Mood boards and concept explorations

For early-stage work, treat a one-sheet Presentation as a mood board — pull images from your Image Library, paste in Pinterest links, drop in cropped product shots, and add notes. You've got more layout control than a typical mood board (cropping, locking, layering, snap-to-grid guides, an eyedropper for colour), and the same file can grow into a full presentation later.

Live presentations on a client call

Screen-share a Presentation in a client call, hover any pin to bring up the product details, and use Find Instances to hop between every spot you've pinned the same product. Switch to Presentation mode for a full-screen, slide-by-slide view without the toolbars in the way.

Client approval, in context

Share a Presentation with your client and they get their own interactive view of it. Any product marked Client review in your schedule can be approved or rejected straight from the pin in the presentation — no separate trip into the schedule. Their decisions show up in your schedule the second they make them.

Polished PDF outputs

When you need to email a presentation, attach it to a contract, or hand a printed copy to a builder, export it as a PDF. Pick your paper size (A4 / A3, or US Letter / Tabloid), choose whether to show the pins, and optionally add a detailed product spec sheet section at the back. Every PDF includes a QR code linking back to the live presentation.
