How to edit images in a presentation

Written by Gail Esterhuyse

This article walks through every way to adjust an image once it's on the page — resize, rotate, skew, crop, remove the background, and lock it in place.

How to resize an image

  1. Click an image to select it. Eight handles appear around its edges and corners.

  2. Drag any handle to resize.

  3. Hold Shift while dragging to keep the image's proportions (uniform resize). Release Shift before letting go.

Without Shift, you can stretch the image freely in any direction.

How to rotate an image

  1. Hover over a corner handle of a selected image — your cursor changes to a rotate icon.

  2. Click and drag to rotate.

  3. Hold Shift while rotating to snap to 45° and 90° increments.

How to skew an image (for room mockups)

The skew tool tilts an image on the horizontal or vertical axis — useful for creating room mockups, or for creating an isometric-style layout.

  1. Select an image.

  2. Click Skew Icon in the Edit menu.

  3. Drag the horizontal or vertical skew handles to set the angle.

  4. Click the check mark to save

How to crop an image

  1. Select an image and click the Crop icon in the toolbar.

  2. Drag the crop handles to set the visible area.

  3. Drag the image inside the crop frame to reposition it behind the crop boundary — useful when you want to crop in tight on a specific part of the image without resizing.

  4. Smart guides appear while you crop, snapping the crop edges to nearby objects on the page.

  5. Click Done.

How to remove an image's background

  1. Select an image and click Remove background Icon in the toolbar.

  2. Programa removes the background automatically (this takes a few seconds).

💡 Note — Background removal is one-shot and can't be undone once you save. If you want to keep the original, duplicate the image first.

How to lock an image in place

You can lock an image so it can't be accidentally moved or resized while you work around it. See How to arrange and style elements in a presentation for the full instructions.

💡 Tip — lock your floor plan or background image first, then add pins and text on top. The locked layer won't shift if you mis-click.
